Topielica - meaning a girl who drowned / was drowned / is constantly drowning. She lives by the water (lake usually, but swamp like terrains came to my mind) where she died of unfortunate love or was killed. Teases men to come close to her and then drowns them. Usually has black hair, black eyes with no pupils, dressed in white or wears no clothes at all. Polish (well, slavic) mythology.

I hope to make whole series on slavic mythology, actually

Done for PB Myths event, Photoshop CS@, few evenings, no direct refs used except for looking up my hands / face for lights.

Yet another piece done for .PSD magazine, used for a tutorial and a cover (October 2007 issue). Done in Photoshop 7, some minor references used for butterflies and flowers.

I haven't send something here for a long time.. this one is quite old, from July, I think, done for .PSD magazine (polish edition) and was published as a cover + a tutorial about painting in Painter X.

it was a technical nightmare for me, spent way too many days on it. anyway - no direct reference used except for the birds. i don't know what kind of birds are these to be frank, i just googled "little flying birds" (seriously) and tried to paint something similar. i have to say i'm quite proud of many elements in this piece and i hope you'll like it too..

i hope it doesn't look weird. on my monitor it looks ok, but i checked it on other ones and it looked too bright and without enough contrast.. oh well. new monitor, new problems.

done in painter 7 + photoshop 7 for some additional textures on a pencil sketch as usual.

i think it's quite a milestep for me, this one..

anyway.

this piece was inspired by the weather lately actually.. started around one month ago i left it, 'cause i couldn't paint the wreath the way i wanted it to look and came back to it today while having a break from some commercial work.. i decided to leave it more rough, painterly which i'm usually too scared to do.. i think it's better this way.

it depicts the.. well, inconstant weather.. not really a winter, not an autumn anymore too. applies to my mood lately as well.

as for some tech. info: NO references used, i just checked some flower and rye photos, but nothing direct, which makes me quite happy

started out mainly as hair practice actually. no direct reference used, although i watched many hair pictures and my own hand when painting this one, all the textures are custom ones, done by me..

well, i wasn't sure if i want to share this one or just wait with it a bit, but decided to show it now..

i have to admit i'm pretty fond of it for this moment. took me bloody too much (and a first concept like that i had about month ago with few old sketches as a base).. finished it in about a week and a half (with few brakes). the walls and bricks for example took me about 2 days and it's not a photo, if you ask, it was done with many, many custom brushes and textures that i made myself from my own photos or from royalty-free stock photos, but none of them resembles any direct pictures, 'cause i completely changed them to paint with them textures.. no ref for the girl, couple of references for fish and heart and peacock feathers (which also took me about a day and a half to finish).. the piranha here is based on a red-bellied one, but her design is, of course, completely mine, i just looked up references to make sure all the anatomy stuff is in place.. the blood was completely hand painted with one small brush used at the beginning (no idea of source, sorry, although it also was changed by me too much to resemble the brush i used)..

as for the concept - well, i don't feel like explaining it too much.. just an idea i had for some time. i don't really like to talk about my concepts.. _^_

well.. started out as a quick pencil doodle, then scanned and painted in painter7. with self made brushes textures etc. few refs used to get the right shape of the mountain and mushroom details.. i kinda rushed it in few parts, so spare me the scolding, please..

anyway. just a quick childhood impression. hope you'll like it..

i just knew it's gonna happen, the exam session starting and suddenly i've got an urge to draw. how typical.
anyway. i decided it's high time i can start painting more.. painterly and stop refining every little scratch. i kinda like the result. at least for now..

i was sure i send it here quite some time ago, but just lately found out I was wrong..
anyway, this is just a quite quick concept art of two characters of mine. sketched with pencils, then coloured in painter 7 with some custom brushes for clothes textures (which, unfortunately, got lost after i reinstalled the system.. oh, well)..
this picture, to my surprise, got in to Painter book so i just thought i'll share it here too.. hope you'll like it

i wanted to refine it a bit more, but i had to finish it today (the deadline day).. so it's not what i really wanted to achieve, but i'm kinda pleased with it.. it surely taught me a lot about colors. and perspective.
painted mostly in painter 7, with some touch-up's in photoshop (with custom made brushes) and opencanvas (for little details).
the main problem with this one was that the original size of it was.. too small. it was a4 size and with such an amount of details it was impossible for me to refine it like i should. so next time i'll try to convince my computer it won't choke on a bigger canavs size, lol.
many references used for the perspective (i was just browsing through my "gothic" book, sketching whatever i liked), as for the girl i used myself as a reference (not on the face, though, i don't have any eyelids problems, lol). No reference for the flowers and landscape in the background.
i hope you'll like it..
